Troubleshoot issues related to data connectivity and your Apple iPhone 4s

This article helps you troubleshoot data connectivity issues on your Apple iPhone 4s.

You may have data connectivity issues if you're unable to:

  • Connect to the Internet
  • Browse websites
  • Send or receive multimedia messages
  • Load Internet content within applications
  • Send or receive email

These steps help identify and resolve the underlying cause. After completing each step, test to see if the issue is fixed. If not, continue to the next step.

  1. Verify airplane mode is turned off.

Airplane mode is a feature that prevents your device from sending or receiving a wireless transmission.

    1. From the home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap the Airplane mode slider to OFF.
  2. Verify that mobile data is enabled.

    1. From the home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Cellular.
    3. Next to Cellular Data, tap the toggle switch to enable mobile data.
  3. Verify the data profile is up-to-date.

    1. From the home screen, tap Phone.
    2. Dial ##873283#.
    3. Tap Call.
    4. Tap OK to start the service update.
    5. After the service update completes, tap OK.
  4. Perform a soft reset.

A soft reset restarts your phone and does not erase any of your content or data.

    1. Press and hold the Power key and Home key.
    2. Release both keys when the screen goes black.
    3. Then press and hold the Power key until your Apple iPhone 4s restarts.

Note: To optimize device performance, be sure your Apple iPhone 4s is running the most recent device software. Check for software updates.
