Initial Sign In and First Use
  1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key to power on.

  2. Read or listen to the Talkback message, then double tap the screen to enable the feature if desired.

    To enable other accessibility settings, tap Accessibility settings.

    To continue with the initial set up, tap Next.

    Note: If prompted to Improve location accuracy? to let Google's location service help apps find your location, tap the preferred option.

  3. Tap to select the preferred language, then tap Next.

  4. Tap Next.

  5. To connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap an available network.

    Note: To continue without connecting to a Wi-Fi network, tap SKIP, then tap SKIP ANYWAY.

  6. Enter the Wi-Fi network password if required, and then tap CONNECT.

    Note: If Hands Free Activation begins, allow it to finish before continuing. The phone will restart.

  7. A Google account is required to access a variety of Google services or to purchase and download content from the Play Store.

    To create a new Google account, tap Or create a new account.

    To log in to an existing Google account, enter the email address and tap NEXT.

    Note: A Gmail address is considered a Google account.

  8. Enter the account password, then tap NEXT.

    Note: Adding a Google account will automatically enable Device Protection. Device Protection uses your Google account to prevent others from activating your device if it's ever lost or stolen.

    If a reset was performed and Device Protection was set up, entering the Google account credentials and Accepting the Google Terms of Service and Privacy Policy will be required.

  9. Tap ACCEPT.

  10. Read the Google services message and tap to set the preferred options.

    Scroll down and tap NEXT.

  11. Tap Restore from this backup, and choose the preferred backup restore option.

    Tap Also include if needed, to select any apps you'd like to restore.

    To skip this step, ensure Set up as new device is selected, tap DONE, then tap NEXT.

  12. To protect your phone's data, tap SET SCREEN LOCK NOW.

    To skip this step, tap SKIP, then tap SKIP ANYWAY.

    Note: You will be required to enter your Screen lock Pattern, PIN or Password prior to starting a factory reset of the device.

  13. Tap a screen lock option.

  14. Enter the Pattern, PIN, or Password, then tap CONTINUE.

  15. Re-enter the Pattern, PIN or Password, then tap CONFIRM or OK.

    Note: The steps will vary depending on the screen lock chosen.

  16. Tap a Notifications option, then tap NEXT.

  17. Read the Google services message and tap to select the preferred options.

    When finished, tap NEXT.

  18. Tap DONE.

  19. The device is now set up and ready for use.

    Note: If a Boost Default message appears, wait for it to complete, then tap OK. This may take several minutes.

    If prompted with a Connections Optimizer message, tap I AGREE.
